Working Team:
Tasneem Ahmar (Ms) completed her Masters in Mass
Communication at the University of Karachi (1978) and Masters in Communication
at the University of Hawaii in 1990. Her areas of special interest are media
monitoring, advocacy and training on women and human rights, political rights,
HIV/AIDS, health, violence against women and education.
Since 1997, she has been Director of the Uks Research Resource and Publication
Centre on Women and Media, Islamabad Centre, designing and organizing seminars,
conferences and workshops, conducting research/studies (field and desk); writing
reports on various development issues; watching the media, providing training in
gender sensitization and awareness. From May 2003, she has been working as
Executive Producer for the Uks Radio Project, leading a team of women radio
journalists in producing Urdu language radio programmes, interviewing
personalities, producing features and discussion programmes on women and social
issues.
Gulrukh Khan (Ms.) Is a graduate in Humanities and has studied Media Graphics.
She joined Uks in March 2004, and has designed posters, publication titles, CD
jackets, brochures, newsletters, reports and developed logos for Uks projects.
She is involved in the layout and graphics for different reports and
publications at Uks . She compiles and researches data for the Annual Desk Diary
as well. She also helps the Uks team with event management.
Rabia Babar (Ms.) A graduate in Software Engineering, she is the first author of
a research paper published in Institute of Electrical & Electronic Engineers
Conference Proceedings & appeared in IEEE Explore in 2006. Her experience varies
from working as Quality Assurance Analyst to Technical Writing, Research, Event
management and teaching at University level. In 2006, she attended management
summer school at London School of Economics & Political Science UK.
She is currently working with Uks as a Research Associate. Her work involves
assisting the Director with proposal writing, project planning, coordination,
documentation, monitoring & evaluation. She is also responsible for media
monitoring analysis for various projects, compiling the quarterly & annual
reports and Newsletters for Uks projects and content management of Uks web
portals.
Saadia Haq (Ms.) A Masters in Business Administration in Finance, she joined
Internews Pakistan as a radio producer for the 'Meri Awaz Sunno', later on also
worked as field producer for the October 8, Earthquake for the Jazba-E-Taamer
radio programme.
With Uks Radio Project, she has produced stories for 'Chalo Phir se Muskoraen'
(Let’s smile again), 'Pani Ki Kahani,'Aurat ki Zubani' (Women and Water Issues)
'Nayee Manzilain, Nayee Umeedain' (New Goals, New Hopes), and currently on
'Hamari Tarraqui, Hamaray Masail' and 'Hamari Tarraqui, Hamari Awaz' two on-
going projects.
In 2007, she was awarded the United Nations University Media Fellowship and has
reported the Arab-Israel conflict from the different Arabic regions for the
Jordan times.
She is now working with Uks in the capacity of Project Coordinator.
Kashif Rizvi (Mr.) Is a Graduate in Accounts and currently doing his Masters in
Commerce from A.I.O.U Islamabad. He joined Uks in December 2000 and has been
working in different capacities. Currently he is working as Administration and
Finance Manager. In addition to managing Uks finances and conducting audits, he
is responsible for managing logistics, supervising events and coordination.
Syeda Rafia Mazahr (Ms.) Is Mass Media Graduate from NUML Islamabad, she holds a
versatile background in communication & coordination. She has been associated as
a PR Practioner/management trainee with Pakistan Telecommunication Authority for
a long time.
She has been writing for Newspapers, Magazines and Web Journals of national and
international repute. My recent article titled “Protecting the telecom
consumers through 'Consumer Protection Regulations 2009” was published in
Flare Magazine.
She is currently working with Uks as Assistant Research Associate. Her work
involves research on different ongoing research projects. Media contact
management & liaison, preparation of press releases and event management,
coordination etc
Sana Malal( Ms.) An Msc. in Gender Studies from Fatima Jinnah Women University
Rawalpindi. She has worked with Ministry of Local and Rural Development in
Project of UNDP as an intern.
Her work at Uks involves newspaper database management. She is also a part of
the media monitoring exercise for the ongoing projects at Uks.
Kiran Peter (Ms.) A masters in Mass Communication from AIOU Islamabad. She is
working with Uks in the capacity of receptionist and secretary. Her work
involves initiating & facilitating official correspondence, official meeting,
and filling, proofreading, and assisting in event management.
She has also been involved in various media monitoring, coding & analysis
activities at Uks
Sadaf Kazmi (Ms.) Is a Masters in Business Administration from Ripah
International University. She has worked with National Bank Pakistan and also
with the Daily Newspaper Aaj Kall in the capacity of reporter & writer.
She has
joined Uks in December 2009 in the capacity of Documentation Officer and is
responsible for data management, media recordings, monitoring & coding for
various ongoing projects at Uks.
Lalarukh Farooq (Ms.) Holds a master degree in Mass Communication and is
currently working towards the complete ion of her M.Phil in the same.
She has worked Project assistant with Parliamentarian Commission for Human
Rights in the capacity of Project Assistant for the project: “Protection of
Minorities in Pakistan: Issues, Challenges & Way Forward”.
She joined Uks in 2008 as an Assistant Radio Producer. At Uks she is responsible
for coordinating for the radio Projects. Recording, Editing, Mixing, Scripting
and Technical reviewing of Uks Radio Programs are also a part of her work. She
has also been involved in various media monitoring, coding & analysis activities
at Uks
Amna Javaid (Ms.) is an MSc in Behavioral Sciences. She has done her internship
with Institute of Psychiatry WHO Collaborating Centre for Mental Health Research
and Training which is part of Rawalpindi General Hospital. She has also done
community work.
She joined Uks in December 2009 and has since been involved in Media Monitoring,
Updating Media lists, working with the team for compiling Media guides,
Management of office events like book launch, training workshop etc.
Imran Mashooq (Mr.) Is currently working towards the completion of his degree in
Accounting & Finance. He is working with Uks in the capacity of Office
Assistant. Mashooq is responsible for the daily cut-and-paste and management of
all (more than a dozen) newspapers for the Uks database. He has also been
involved in Media Recording & Media Monitoring activity for various Uks projects
Sheraz Anwer (Mr.) Holds a bachelors degree in humanities. He has a sound
experience of working as a computer resource with different organizations
including Dawn Newspaper in the capacity of computer/ Technical resource.
Currently he is working with Uks as a Scanning Supervisor on the Data
Digitization Project.
His work involves scanning, editing, cd writing and uploading over the internet
all the Files from the Uks’s physical Newspaper database.

Radio Producer/Coordinator:
Qudsia Mahmood (Ms.) A Masters in Clinical Psychology,
she has been associated with Uks as Radio Producer/ Coordinator since the inception
of the Uks Radio Project in 2003. She has been attached with the various ventures
undertaken by the radio project including Meri Awaz Sunno, Ghurbat, Aman Aur Insaf,
Mujhe Bolney Do, Chalo Phir Se Muskoraen, Pani Ki Kahani Aurat ki Zubani and Aurat
Ghairat Aur Qatl. She was also the first woman radio producer to travel to remote
areas of the country which makes her, a pioneer of sorts in the realm of radio journalism.

Aisha Amir (Ms.) A Masters in International Relations
from University of Karachi and worked with Balochistan Rural Support Program and
NGO Resource Centre on issues of education, health, empowerment and vocational training.
In 2006, she worked with the Uks Radio Project for the first time on Pani Ki Kahani,
Aurat Ki Zubani (Water and Women issues) and produced stories of women’s issues
from far flung areas of Balochistan! She is also working on an on-going radio project
'Hamari Tarraqui, Hamaray Masail' on success stories of struggling women.

is currently working at Uks in different capacities. Her work involves website content
design, conducting research on radio programme themes for radio producers, and compiling
and writing reports for the on-going Uks projects.

Mohammad Ishtiaq (Mr.) A Master in Business Administration,
this dynamic man has worked with BBC Pakistan as Relationship Marketing and contributes
to BBC radio service and bbcurdu.com. He has been associated with the Uks Radio
Project and produced radio programs for Pani Ki Kahani, Aurat Ki Zubani (Water and
Women issues), Aurat Ghairat aur Qatl (Women, Honour and Murder) and Nayee Manzilain,
Nayee Umeedain (New Goals, New Hopes).
Radio Producer:
Asif Farouqui (Mr.) A postgraduate in Political Science
from Punjab University, he has been working with Uks on different radio projects
and knows the Uks philosophy. He has produced stories for Uks radio project on different
series including 'Ghurbat, Amn Aur Insaf''(A triangle) and 'Mujhe Bolney Do' (Let
me Speak).
He has rich experience of reporting on conflict, social, current affairs and special
assignments in Afghanistan and Iraq War. He has worked with BBC Urdu Service, ABC,
Channel News Asia and Star News and the story continues!
