Tasneem Ahmar (Ms) Ms. Tasneem Ahmar holds Masters degrees in Communication (1989 University of Hawaii, USA and Mass Communication (1978 University of Karachi, Pakistan. Currently heading Uks Research Centre- a media advocacy and monitoring organization, she is also Executive producer for Meri Awaz Sunno (hear my voice), a rights-based radio programme with a predominantly female technical and editorial team.

Ms. Ahmar started her career as a desk journalist from The Muslim, an English language daily in Pakistan. She has worked at the Dawn Group of newspapers and has held posts of Research Associate-Women's Study Centre, Quaid-e-Azam University, Pakistan and Assistant Professor, Mass Communication department, Karachi University, Pakistan. She was also the Country Director of Overseas Research Centre, Pakistan office of AIPS (American Institute of Pakistan Studies).

Ms. Ahmar has been a free-lance journalist since 1986 and her cover story on violence against women titled "Trial by Fire" published in an English language monthly The Herald (September 1995) was presented at the 1995 Beijing Conference. Ms. Ahmar has authored many research papers, participated in many international and regional seminars and workshops and conferences on issues around women, development and media. She has edited many media studies and media guides on issues ranging from violence against women, HIV and AIDS to gender sensitivity in the media. In 1998, she received Mary Morgan Hewett Award on Excellence in Feature Writing.

In June 2009, she received the prestigious International Media Leadership Award from Internews-USA.

Shaista Yasmeen (Ms.) has been working as a Projects Coordinator for Uks for over a year now. She brings to the table an interesting combination of communication skills and expertise in media. Her responsibilities as a Projects Coordinator include planning meetings, organizing workshops, and managing project deadlines. In the past Ms. Yasmeen has worked at Dawn News, Radio Pakistan, and SPARC.

Saniya Jafree (Ms.) holds a Bachelors degree in Software Engineering from Fatima Jinnah Women University.  At Uks as a Research Associate, she is working on multiple fronts such as drafting project proposals, planning and time lining project activities, compiling of quarterly and annual project reports, compiling research and media monitoring analyses and research publications, liaison with project partners and managing content for Uks’s official website.
Earlier she has experience in working as a technical writer and managing database activities for the Management and Information Systems Department at Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital and Research Centre, Lahore. She has been working as a Consultant Content Writer for Uks since 2007.

Syed Muhammad Ahsan (Mr.) Syed Muhammad Ahsan, is currently working at Uks as the Finance Executive.  He is involved with Uks in a wide range of capacities. In addition to managing Uks finances and conducting audits, he is responsible for preparing financial reports, audits, maintaining accounts, assisting the sister concerns for operations, salary and payroll, auditing of books of accounts of group concerns, preparation of analytical statements, reporting, budgeting, and general office administration.

He has done his B.com and is an ACMA Inter. His previous work experience includes working for one year at NCHD as an Investment analyst and working for one year at Adetude Pvt Ltd. as a Tax officer.

Sana Fatima Hussain (Ms.) is a literature graduate from Fatima Jinnah Women University who recently joined Uks as a Research Associate. She is also a freelance writer who has contributed articles to various publications and has previously worked at Dawn and British Council as an Intern.

  Hina Imam Zaidi (Mr.) joined Uks in 2012 and has been working as a Documentation Officer for over a year now. She completed BBA (Hons.) from Mohammed Ali Jinnah University and EMBA from Skill Development Council Lahore. In the past Ms. Zaidi has worked for Jubilee Life Insurance and Adetude as a Senior Relationship Officer and an Administrative Assistant respectively. Her responsibilities at Uks include monitoring print and electronic media regarding gender sensitivity, documentation, qualitative analyses and coordination. She has also recently added radio production and hosting to her repertoire.

Syed Muhammad Zulqarnain Haider (Mr.) is part of Uks's new team, having recently joined Uks as an Assistant Finance Officer. He holds an I.Com degree and has worked at Shalimar Hotel as the Front Desk Manager for 3 years. He has been involved with Uks in various capacities.

Shujaat Ali (Mr.)is currently working as an intern with Uks(since Jan, 2012).  A graduate in Business Administration (BBA Honours) from Preston University, Kohat, he has quickly adapted his skills to manage the daily print media monitoring at Uks Research Centre. He has been involved in media monitoring and content analysis exercises and is also managing the Uks’s official Directory.
In the past he has interned at SNGPL, Peshawar in the Logistic Support Department. In his academic career he has been awarded training certificates in recognition of his skills from National Productivity Organization and the Institute of Transformational Leadership at Preston University.

Muhammad Shahzad (Mr.) has been with Uks for almost 5 years now, and has been working at Uks as a documentation officer and data organizer since August 2006. His responsibilities at Uks include cutting, pasting and organizing newspaper clippings, media monitoring, office administration, etc.

Freelancers at Uks

 

Arslan Zaidi (Mr.) is currently working at Uks as an I.T. Consultant, Network Administrator and webmaster since 2010.
His qualifications include being a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE), Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP) and a Cisco Certified Network Administrator (CCNA). His previous work experience includes working as a Network Administrator at Firstlight Communication (2009 – present), System Administrator at Rohi Television (2007-2008) which included IT Network Administration and hardware maintenance as well as provision of technical  Support to Newsroom, NLE And Creative Sections, Assistant Technical Manager at Rohi Television (2008-2009), which included Audio/Video, Ethernet And Wireless Network maintenance, Fixed Location Network Design & deployment of Streambox Solution for Live Video Streaming From Multan to Islamabad. Furthermore he has also worked at Systemtech Computers as a Network Engineer (2003-2007).

Rafia Arshad (Ms.) joined Uks in 2003 as radio journalist, and is proud to be part of the first ever female radio journalists group. She has produced radio programmes on various social and economic issues faced by women in the Pakistani society. She received fellowship from Radio Netherlands Training Centre in 2010 and successfully completed the international course on "Facts and Formats - Informing People through Creative Ways”.

Presently, she is a part of the Uks team as Radio Projects Coordinator and recently completed a series of 60 programmes on human rights, access to information and freedom of expression related issues, titled “Humarey Haqooq Humari Zamedarian” (our rights our responsibilities).
 Bringing unheard voices to the attention of people is her passion. She strongly believes that radio is a powerful medium for bringing about a positive change in the society, through raising awareness and dissemination of useful information.

Saadia Haq (Ms.) A Masters in Business Administration in Finance, she joined Internews Pakistan as a radio producer for the 'Meri Awaz Sunno', later on also worked as field producer for the October 8, Earthquake for the Jazba-E-Taamer radio programme.
With Uks Radio Project, she has produced stories for 'Chalo Phir se Muskoraen' (Let's smile again), 'Pani Ki Kahani,'Aurat ki Zubani' (Women and Water Issues) 'Nayee Manzilain, Nayee Umeedain' (New Goals, New Hopes), and currently on 'Hamari Tarraqui, Hamaray Masail' and 'Hamari Tarraqui, Hamari Awaz' two on- going projects.
In 2007, she was awarded the United Nations University Media Fellowship and has reported the Arab-Israel conflict from the different Arabic regions for the Jordan times.

She is now working with Uks in the capacity of Project Coordinator

Uks Alumni

 

 

Ahmad Ibrahim Sayed (Mr.) has done his Bachelors in Business Administration from SZABIST University Islamabad and is now working at Uks as a Research Associate. His work ranges from report writing and compilation, event management and coordination, organizing trainings, managing logistics, media monitoring at Uks, looking after the Uks website and taking care of office correspondence.

  Aliya Shah (Ms.) joined Uks in April 2011 and has been working at Uks as the Front Desk Manager and looks after the Admin department as well. She is involved in various activities such as office administration, event management, contacts update, publication dissemination to name a few. She is a Bachelor in Arts from the Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU). Her work experience includes working at Middle East Marketing Research Bureau (MEMRB) Islamabad, as a Receptionist, and at General Traders (pvt) Islamabad.

Beenish Riaz (Ms.) joined Uks in December 2010 and is working at Uks as an Assistant Research Associate. She is a MSc in Gender Studies (Social Sciences) from Quaid-e-Azam University Islamabad and has done her Bachelors in Applied Psychology and Political Science. She has one-year experience of teaching at The Leaders School. Currently she is involved with Uks in various capacities such as Media Monitoring and Analysis, report writing, event coordination and facilitation, transcriptions, updating Media and NGO lists and contacts, publication dissemination, etc.

Sumera Abbasi (Ms) joined Uks in 2010 and has been working as a Projects Coordinator at Uks since October 2010. She holds a Bachelors of Business (Information Technology) degree from Curtin University of Technology, Australia. Her extensive work experience includes working as a Technical Writer on a Halliburton Project at LMKR Islamabad, as well as working at the Management Development Institute (MDI) Islamabad as a Program Executive. She also worked as a trainer at the MDI on Communication Skills, Effective Writing Skills and IELTS.

Furqan M. Sadiq (Mr.) is working with Uks as Manager Finance and Administration. He is CA Finalist from “The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan” (ICAP), and Associate member of “Pakistan Institute of Public Finance Accountants”. Mr Furqan did his formal articles from Deloitte Islamabad practice and has also worked with Grant Thornton Islamabad. He has experience of various industry sectors in the field of accounting, auditing, taxation, corporate laws, consulting and corporate finance. Mr Furqan was previously working with M/s Creative Electronics and Automation as an Internal Auditor.

Sundus Hamid (Ms.) a graduate in Business Administration from Bahria University, Islamabad, she joined Uks Research Centre (Feb, 2012) as Administrative Support Officer. Her responsibilities at Uks include assisting the programme team in managing official events and trainings, writing press releases, designing invites and presentations, announcing events and updates for Uks’s official website, maintaining Uks’s project chronology, and  accompanying and assisting the Director in meetings. In addition she manages tasks like transcription and documentation of various events and activities and office correspondence.

  Gulrukh Khan (Ms.) Is a graduate in Humanities and has studied Media Graphics. She joined Uks in March 2004, and has designed posters, publication titles, CD jackets, brochures, newsletters, reports and developed logos for Uks projects. She is involved in the layout and graphics for different reports and publications at Uks . She compiles and researches data for the Annual Desk Diary as well. She also helps the Uks team with event management.

Rabia Babar (Ms.) A graduate in Software Engineering, she is the first author of a research paper published in Institute of Electrical & Electronic Engineers Conference Proceedings & appeared in IEEE Explore in 2006. Her experience varies from working as Quality Assurance Analyst to Technical Writing, Research, Event management and teaching at University level. In 2006, she attended management summer school at London School of Economics & Political Science UK.

She is currently working with Uks as a Research Associate. Her work involves assisting the Director with proposal writing, project planning, coordination, documentation, monitoring & evaluation. She is also responsible for media monitoring analysis for various projects, compiling the quarterly & annual reports and Newsletters for Uks projects and content management of Uks web portals.

  Kashif Rizvi (Mr.) Is a Graduate in Accounts and currently doing his Masters in Commerce from A.I.O.U Islamabad. He joined Uks in December 2000 and had been working in different capacities. He worked at Uks as the Administration and Finance Manager. In addition to managing Uks finances and conducting audits, he was responsible for managing logistics, supervising events and coordination.

  Aamna Javaid (Ms.) is an MSc in Behavioral Sciences. She has done her internship with Institute of Psychiatry WHO Collaborating Centre for Mental Health Research and Training which is part of Rawalpindi General Hospital. She has also done community work and has also done a one-year Internship Program at the NIP.
She joined Uks in December 2009 and was involved in Media Monitoring & Analysis, updating Media and NGO lists and contacts, working with the team for compiling media guides, management of office events like book and annual diary launches, training workshops, event organising, publication dissemination etc. She left Uks in April 2011 after working  for more than a year here.

  Lalarukh Farooq (Ms.) Holds a master degree in Mass Communication and is currently working towards the completetion of her M.Phil in the same.
She has worked Project assistant with Parliamentarian Commission for Human Rights in the capacity of Project Assistant for the project: "Protection of Minorities in Pakistan: Issues, Challenges & Way Forward".
She joined Uks in 2008 as an Assistant Radio Producer. At Uks she is responsible for coordinating for the radio Projects. Recording, Editing, Mixing, Scripting and Technical reviewing of Uks Radio Programs are also a part of her work. She has also been involved in various media monitoring, coding & analysis activities at Uks.

  Syeda Rafia Mazhar (Ms.) Is Mass Media Graduate from NUML Islamabad, she holds a versatile background in communication & coordination. She has been associated as a PR Practioner/management trainee with Pakistan Telecommunication Authority for a long time.
She has been writing for Newspapers, Magazines and Web Journals of national and international repute. Her article titled “Protecting the telecom consumers through 'Consumer Protection Regulations 2009” was published in Flare Magazine.
She is currently working with Uks as Radio Producer and an Assistant Research Associate. Her work involves research on different research projects; media contact management & liaison, preparation of press releases and event management, coordination etc.

  Sana Malal (Ms.) is an Msc. in Gender Studies from Fatima Jinnah Women University Rawalpindi. She has worked with Ministry of Local and Rural Development in Project of UNDP as an intern.
Her work at Uks involved newspaper database management. She was also a part of the media monitoring exercise for the projects at Uks.

  Kiran Peter (Ms.) A masters in Mass Communication from AIOU Islamabad. She worked with Uks in the capacity of receptionist and secretary. Her work involved initiating & facilitating official correspondence, official meeting, and filling, proofreading, and assisting in event management.
She had also been involved in various media monitoring, coding & analysis activities at Uks.

  Sadaf Kazmi (Ms.) Is a Masters in Business Administration from Ripah International University. She has worked with National Bank Pakistan and also with the Daily Newspaper Aaj Kall in the capacity of reporter & writer.
She joined Uks in December 2009 in the capacity of Documentation Officer and was responsible for data management, media recordings, monitoring & coding for various ongoing projects at Uks.

  Imran Mashooq (Mr.) Is currently working towards the completion of his degree in Accounting & Finance. He is working with Uks in the capacity of Office Assistant. Mashooq is responsible for the daily cut-and-paste and management of all (more than a dozen) newspapers for the Uks database. He has also been involved in Media Recording & Media Monitoring activity for various Uks projects.

Radio Producers/Coordinators

 

  Qudsia Mahmood (Ms.) A Masters in Clinical Psychology, she has been associated with Uks as Radio Producer/ Coordinator since the inception of the Uks Radio Project in 2003. She has been attached with the various ventures undertaken by the radio project including Meri Awaz Sunno, Ghurbat, Aman Aur Insaf, Mujhe Bolney Do, Chalo Phir Se Muskoraen, Pani Ki Kahani Aurat ki Zubani and Aurat Ghairat Aur Qatl. She was also the first woman radio producer to travel to remote areas of the country which makes her, a pioneer of sorts in the realm of radio journalism.

  Sheraz Anwer (Mr.) holds a bachelors degree in humanities. He has a sound experience of working as a computer resource with different organizations including Dawn Newspaper in the capacity of computer/ Technical resource.
Currently he is working with Uks as a Scanning Supervisor on the Data Digitization Project.
His work involved scanning, editing, cd writing and uploading over the internet all the Files from the Uks's physical Newspaper database.

Researcher/Radio producer

 

  Aisha Amir (Ms.) A Masters in International Relations from University of Karachi and worked with Balochistan Rural Support Program and NGO Resource Centre on issues of education, health, empowerment and vocational training. In 2006, she worked with the Uks Radio Project for the first time on Pani Ki Kahani, Aurat Ki Zubani (Water and Women issues) and produced stories of women’s issues from far flung areas of Balochistan! She is also working on an on-going radio project 'Hamari Tarraqui, Hamaray Masail' on success stories of struggling women.

  Mohammad Ishtiaq (Mr.) A Master in Business Administration, this dynamic man has worked with BBC Pakistan as Relationship Marketing and contributes to BBC radio service and bbcurdu.com. He has been associated with the Uks Radio Project and produced radio programs for Pani Ki Kahani, Aurat Ki Zubani (Water and Women issues), Aurat Ghairat aur Qatl (Women, Honour and Murder) and Nayee Manzilain, Nayee Umeedain (New Goals, New Hopes).

  Asif Farouqui (Mr.) A postgraduate in Political Science from Punjab University, he has been working with Uks on different radio projects and knows the Uks philosophy. He has produced stories for Uks radio project on different series including 'Ghurbat, Amn Aur Insaf''(A triangle) and 'Mujhe Bolney Do' (Let me Speak).
He has rich experience of reporting on conflict, social, current affairs and special assignments in Afghanistan and Iraq War. He has worked with BBC Urdu Service, ABC, Channel News Asia and Star News.
